velvet death

velvet death

in one wainscoted moment

a shift of texture looses seam

sequins of memory blur

between bleeding colors

of injured shade

we are at once at the mercy

of our own fear of monotony

and thus shape ever constant

the form of abandonment’s Motif

whatever risk is fashionable

and at the same time,

readily disposable.

there is no drape for gossamer loss

only nakedness of modest regret

an opportunity to exploit singular weakness

may speak to us in foreign tongue

but it is the inner scream to avoid

all latent mirrors that we hear

so as not to see our real selves

dance before a shawl of oblivion

or a blanket of despair.

we should embrace each

other’s unraveling

not be blind to fault

but instead seek only perfection

in the human fabric

that wears many masks of disguise

but hides behind a truth of tears

the curtain that was our downfall ~

the velvet that was our

unspeakable death.
